gnubiff software package provides mail notification program for GNOME (and others), you can install in your Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install gnubiff
gnubiff is installed in your system.
Make ensure the gnubiff package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep gnubiff *
You will get with gnubiff package name, version, architecture and description in a table
